MOT TESTING - Covid-19 extension ends August 1st
The MOT comprises series of test and checks to ensure the roadworthiness of vehicle and their compliance with regulations in place at the time of testing. Testing stations to carry out these scheduled events operate throughout the UK and are regulated by the DVSA who inspect them from time to time to confirm they are conducting tests correctly and to the specified guidelines.
If you’ve ever considered opening or installing a testing station, now might be the ideal opportunity to make that move. Currently there are around 23,250 testing stations throughout the UK of which about 10% are Class 1 & 2 (including Motorcycles, ATVs, Trikes, Bike and sidecar). There are more than 1 million vehicles in this class that will need testing. The beauty of providing MOT testing is that it is recurring business.
Just doing some simple maths, that equates to approximately 415 tests per testing station or £10,000 of testing fees. Of course, some will do more the tests conducted more than 15% will fail the initial test for minor issues that are rectified by the testing station. This could be a blown bulb or a set of tyres - all good revenue.
- So what do you need to consider when opening or adding an MOT Testing Station to your buisness?
- Do you have space? For a class 1 & 2 testing bay you need a minimum space of 4.6 x 3.2m and some parking space
- You’ll need to become a tester/station manger or employ one
- You’ll need to install the right equipment - There are many companies offering this service, make sure they; supply compliant equipment, are experienced in installation and can perform the required scheduled calibrations, reputable
- Can you offer immediate rectification of minor faults
- Are you ready to increase your business
- You’ll need to advertise your services to make the most of it
While the number of MOT stations fluctuates the demand for testing is on the rise. Why not look into the possibility for you business?
Maybe it's your opportunity now!
